SUSS Basketball, in partnership with Children-At-Risk Empowerment Association (CARE) Singapore, organised a basketball clinic for secondary school students at Bedok Green Secondary School. Besides teaching the youths basketball skills, the day was filled with meaningful connections and a sense of fulfilment, using sports as a positive force for social good.
The initiative aimed to create a safe space for the participants to learn basketball skills and build a sense of camaraderie. The session was conducted in a manner to keep participants’ energy high through mini competitions and prizes!

Briefing by our student-athletes to the remind the youths the importance of safety amidst the fun
SUSS student-athletes kicked off the session by briefing the participants on safety and presented the programme outline. This helped to ensure that the session was conducted in a controlled manner and kept the participants expectant of the fun that was to come!

Connecting with the participants through one-to-one sessions, teaching the participants key basketball skills
There were also one-to-one sessions where the student athletes taught the participants essential basketball skills like how to dribble and shoot the ball, creating meaningful moments and shared joy through sport.
The event was a tremendous success. The collective effort captured every smile, high-five, and celebratory moment, leaving participants with cherished memories that will resonate long after the day ended.
Brandon Scott Toh, a Year 2 Full-Time Human Resource Management student and Captain of the SUSS Basketball Competition Group, shared his reflection: “It is crucial to always give back to the community. The basketball clinic was something that will help the students express their interests. The session turned out fulfilling whereby all the students were enjoyed themselves. Although it is also great to teach them the fundamentals of basketball, it is more important to ensure that they have fun while playing the sport that they are interested in. As we plan for more future basketball clinics, I hope more students would be willing to register and join the initiative.”
