Our Archers delivered even in difficult and erratic weather conditions over the 2-day competition. Eugene Koh, a Year 1 Full-Time Public Safety and Security Student shared, “This IAC has shown me the importance perseverance and sheer will. Knowing the battle isn’t over until it’s really over kept me going even though the results were not promising. Through competing, friendships were forged with archers from other institutions, showing me the importance of camaraderie and sportsmanship. At the end of the day, we are all winners if we have done our best and strive to do better subsequently.”
In the face of tough battles and conditions, the team sharpened their focus and strengthened their unity.
Dream, Dare, Do: Hitting the Mark with Purpose
Participating in the NTU-IAC Archery competition was more than just a test of aim - it was a powerful reflection of the deeper disciplines that define both the sport and the spirit of an SUSS student.
Archery demands more than physical precision. It calls for unwavering focus, just as SUSS encourages us to stay grounded in our mission of achieving social good through purposeful learning. Every arrow drawn is an exercise in resilience, mirroring our commitment to lifelong education and pushing forward even when the shot seems uncertain.
In every tough fight, the team pushed forward with unwavering team spirit, uplifting, uniting and fighting together.
In moments of intense competition, our archers must find calm under pressure. Similarly, SUSS nurtures adaptability and integrity, urging students to remain composed and ethical, no matter how challenging the circumstances. Each release is a decision made with confidence, backed by preparation, much like how we at SUSS are empowered to make impactful choices.
What stood out most during the competition wasn’t just the targets we hit, but the values we upheld. The RAISE values—Respect, Adaptability, Integrity, Service, Empathy—came alive in every moment: respecting opponents, adapting to weather, standing by fair play, uplifting teammates, and understanding the collective spirit of the sport.
In the heat of competition, trusting your teammate’s words brings clarity and strength.
Through this lens, archery becomes more than a sport. It becomes a symbol of our educational journey—a way to dream of what’s possible, dare to challenge our limits, and most importantly, do what matters with heart, purpose, and precision.
Behind the Bow: Discipline, Grit, and the Bonds We Build
The spotlight may shine brightest on the day of the competition, but the true story of the NTU IAC Archery journey lies in the quiet, focused hours and the countless arrows loosed in pursuit of improvement.
Preparation for the competition wasn’t just about hitting targets—it was about sharpening the mind as much as the aim. Archery demands mental stillness in motion. Under pressure, every breath counts. Every heartbeat feels louder. To steady the bow, one must first steady the mind. Our archers trained not just to draw stronger, but to think clearer, to remain composed under stress, and to trust in their process.
SUSS archers are aiming their marks during their training.
From practicing visualization techniques to managing performance anxiety, the team spent time refining their mental resilience—knowing that competition is as much about controlling the nerves as it is about form. Mistakes were welcomed as teachers, not setbacks. Each challenge overcome became a small breakthrough: a steadier hand, a sharper focus, a more confident shot.
Amidst all this intensity, what grew just as strong was camaraderie. Between rounds, teammates offered quiet encouragements, corrected stances, shared laughs, and pushed each other to keep going. The range wasn’t just a training ground—it became a space of mutual respect, empathy, and support, reflecting the RAISE values SUSS instils in all of us.
The real spirit of competition thrives in this blend of discipline and connection, grit and grace. Not in medals or scores alone, but in the growth of every individual, and the unity of a team that dared to dream, trained with purpose, and showed up not just to compete, but to become stronger together.
