The various courses are designed to equip graduates with strong foundations in the theories and techniques in professional counselling, and to function proficiently in practice as a professional counsellor. The electives allow for specialisation in desired settings and clientele groups. As the only counselling degree programme offered by a local university, this programme prepares graduates to function as professional counsellors in the local environment. Training is conducted by experienced practitioners and academicians, with emphasis on counselling competencies, adopting an academic-practitioner approach to counsellor education. Hence, as the counselling practicum is a core feature in professional counselling training, students are required to commit their time to it.
Graduates of the Singapore University of Social Sciences Bachelor of Counselling programme who continue to pursue our Master in Counselling programme and complete 600 hours of face-to-face counselling within 3 years of their graduation would meet the standards and requirements stipulated by the Singapore Association for Counselling (SAC) for SAC membership as registered counsellors. For more information, please refer to SAC website at http://www.sac-counsel.org.sg.
