Trained expertise in community leadership and social development is increasingly needed in a rapidly changing world. A multi-disciplinary understanding of the issues and challenges surrounding the practice of community leadership and social development is crucial, particularly for persons working within the civil and social service sectors. This programme reflects Singapore University of Social Sciences' commitment to support the growing need for effective community leaders who can play a progressive role in Singapore's social development. Taught by a team of distinguished academics and professionals, the programme combines academic rigour with practical policy-focused skills development.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis; therefore applicants are encouraged to submit their applications early.
Refer to general admission criteria for graduate programme.
Students complete six compulsory core courses, four electives (to be chosen from a basket of electives) and a dissertation (which can be substituted by two additional courses, subject to approval). Upon successful completion of the six core courses, a Graduate Diploma will be awarded by Singapore University of Social Sciences.
Courses may also be taken individually as a graduate certification course (limited places available).
This programme will be especially relevant to those seeking to develop advanced knowledge and expertise in community leadership and social development for occupations within the civil and social services, the social sciences, and those who wish to obtain a specialised qualification for their current professions.
Graduates will be able to assume leadership roles with strong organisational capabilities in a range of careers - as community leaders, grassroots leaders, planners, policy makers, civil society actors, social workers, counsellors, unionists, managers, teachers, trainers and researchers. Students who are already in such careers will add value to their existing work with this specialised qualification and professional upgrading. This programme also provides those who wish to switch careers with expanded options for taking up different types of work related to community leadership and social development as an increasingly relevant field in Singapore.
