The Master of Psychology is a professional postgraduate training programme for psychology degree holders to specialise and work as either organisational or forensic psychologists. Building on the foundations learnt from the psychology degree, this postgraduate training focuses on core research skills and the application of the science of psychology to maximise potential at the workplace or understand behaviour of criminals and offenders.

Unique Features of the Programme

This is a skills-based programme that focuses on helping your to develop and hone essential skills needed in applying psychology to either forensic psychology or organisational psychology.
The Master of Psychology (Forensic Psychology) is the only postgraduate training programme specific to the Singapore legal system and the types of crime in Singapore.
The Master of Psychology (Organisational Psychology) is the first postgraduate training programme in organisational psychology in Singapore and includes professional certification courses.
This programme is conducted using a blended learning approach, with a mixture of both face-to-face lessons and e-learning, so that you can learn at your own pace.

In addition, applicants should have an undergraduate degree in psychology, preferably with honours.

Applicants without an honours degree in psychology will need to have at least 2 years of working experience in a related field.

This programme is currently unable to take in international students, i.e., you must be a Singapore citizen, permanent resident or a resident in Singapore (e.g., Employment Pass holder) in order to apply for admission.

You are encouraged to submit your applications early. Incomplete applications (e.g. missing transcripts or personal statement) will not be considered.

To graduate with Master of Psychology, students are required to complete 60 credit units (cu) of courses and attain a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.0 (out of 5.0). Students will need to take compulsory practicums conducted mostly during weekday business hours. For students enrolling from January 2024 onwards, they are required to complete two compulsory practicums, namely, PSY501 Supervised Practicum I, and PSY502 Supervised Practicum II.

The Master of Psychology is for psychology graduates who intend on furthering their education in either organisational or forensic psychology. An honours degree in psychology is preferred. Applicants without an honours degree in psychology will be required to complete 30 cu of preparatory courses at honours level.

The Master of Psychology will provide you with the research and professional skills needed to practice as an Organisational Psychologist or a Forensic Psychologist in Singapore.

How many intake(s) are there in a year for the Master of Forensic Psychology?
There is one intake in January every year.
What are the minimum and maximum durations of Master of Psychology?
The minimum and maximum candidature for Master of Psychology is 2 years and 4 years respectively.
Do I need to have a degree in psychology to take up this master's degree?
Yes, a degree in psychology is a must and honours is preferred.
Can I practice as a psychologist after taking this master's degree?
Yes, you can.
Do I need to take the Graduate Diploma in Organisational Psychology first before taking the Masters of Psychology?
No, the graduate diploma is not stackable to the Master of Psychology. The Master of Psychology is for psychology degree holders only.
When are classes conducted?
Classes will mostly be conducted on weekday evenings.
Are there exams?
There are no exams, but all courses in this programme have 2 assignments and 1 End of Course Assessment (ECA), which is a project that you need to complete at the end of each course.
Can I work and study at the same time?
Absolutely!
Are there credit exemptions for this programme?
No, there are no credit exemptions, as you are expected to have studied your degree in a different discipline, i.e., not psychology.
What if I do not have an honour degree in psychology?
If you do not have an honours degree, you can still sign up for the Master of Psychology, but you need to take a bridging programme (PRCPSY) to help you be better prepared for the programme, where you will need to complete 30 cu of level 4 honours courses, inclusive of a capstone research project.

What happens if I do not complete the graduate programmes (e.g. Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Master) within the candidature period? Can I apply to take the remaining courses via CET pathway?
Students who have not completed their graduate programmes within the stipulated candidature period will not be eligible for the award of the qualification for such graduate programmes. Such students however may apply to take, via the CET pathway, the remaining courses which they did not complete under their graduate programmes as part of their personal learning and development . Such application will be subjected to the CET admission requirement. However, as such students have exceeded the candidature period for their graduate programmes, they will not be awarded the qualification for such graduate programmes even after taking and completing the remaining courses via the CET pathway (“Condition”).
