Overcoming Challenges: Rasyidee's Journey of Resilience and Triumph

Rasyidee’s journey to receiving the Colour Award is an inspiration to anyone who has ever struggled with self-doubt. Balancing a demanding part-time job, studies, and his lifelong passion for rugby, Rasyidee's journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and a growth mindset.

Despite attending a prestigious rugby school, Rasyidee faced constant rejections during team selections. However, his determination paid off, culminating in him representing his school and becoming the U16 national team captain. These experiences instilled confidence and a drive for continuous improvement.

A pivotal moment came when he was selected to represent Singapore at the World University Championships (WUG) Ruby Sevens 2024 in France. "Initially, I questioned my ability to handle such opportunity," he admits. His unwavering resilience, cultivated through a 'never give up' mindset, empowered him to confidently seize this exciting opportunity.

"Every stumble is an opportunity to learn and rise stronger, paving the way for greater achievements."

With just a month of training alongside the national squad, Rasyidee secured a spot in the final 12 players for the WUG Rugby 7s. He consciously addressed his self-doubts and focused on enjoying the learning experience while competing against top rugby nations.

This wasn't Rasyidee's first Colour Award, but it held a special significance. As a part-time student, he initially struggled to feel connected to the SUSS community. Receiving the award fostered a sense of belonging and recognition, deepening his attachment to the school.

Attending the #CelebrateSUcceSS event alone, Rasyidee initially felt anxious. However, striking up a conversation with fellow students at a table led to unexpected warmth and acceptance. Despite his sport not being an official SUSS club, his achievements were acknowledged and celebrated.

Rasyidee believes failure is a necessary ingredient for success. It allows for self-reflection, identifying weaknesses, and adjusting strategies. He emphasises that overcoming setbacks requires a growth mindset and a focus on practical solutions.

For Rasyidee, success is a gradual process built on resilience. He encourages embracing setbacks as opportunities to learn and grow. By reflecting on challenges and asking "How can I do better?", we can discover our strengths and define our own path to success. Rasyidee's story is a powerful reminder that success isn't about avoiding failure, but using it as a guide to navigate our journey, one step at a time.
