Law Degree Programmes: Bachelor of Laws (LLB) & Juris Doctor (JD)
SUSS Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Juris Doctor (JD) programmes aim to develop lawyers practising Criminal Law or Family Law. The programmes will provide you with in-depth training as well as exposure to cross-disciplinary areas like sociology, social work and forensics that will arm you with the ability to approach issues from more holistic angles.
In your final year of study in whichever programme you take, you will be required to attend and complete a Legal Clerkship Programme that will provide structured training in the application of legal and professional knowledge in real-life situations.
Both degrees are recognised under the Legal Profession Act, and as long as you graduate with a cGPA of 3.5, you will become a 'qualified person' under the Legal Profession Act and shall be eligible to sit for Part B of the Bar Examinations.
Students with a first degree will be required to complete 150 credit units to graduate from the JD programme. Students without a first degree will be required to complete 180 credit units, (either an additional 30 credit units of electives from the areas of law, psychology or social work, or a minor) to graduate from the LLB programme. The JD programme can be completed in 4 to 6 years, while the LLB programme can be completed in 4.5 to 6 years.
Programmes
The School of Law (SLAW) aims to develop lawyers practising Criminal or Family Law. Our programmes adopt a pedagogical approach that emphasises problem-solving by combining the learning of substantive law with application. Together with exposure to cross-disciplinary areas, our graduates will be prepared to face legal work that has become increasingly specialised over time.
