From Novice to Champion: Jonathan's Dragon Boat Journey at SUSS

Jonathan's journey with the SUSS Dragon Boat Club began in 2023, joining as a founding member. "Having enjoyed the sport in university years ago, I was eager to revive that passion," he recalls. The team faced typical challenges of a newly formed club: establishing training routines, fostering team cohesion, and guiding new members through the fundamentals of the dragon boat.

"As one of the more experienced paddlers," Jonathan shares, "I was fortunate to mentor younger members, sharing my knowledge and helping them develop the mental and physical resilience required for competitive dragon boating."

Balancing the demands of training with his studies and work presented significant challenges. "The training regimen was intense," he reflects, "requiring significant physical and mental fortitude. It pushed my limits and challenged me to prioritise and manage my time effectively."

Despite these challenges, the team achieved promising results in Singapore Dragon Boat Association (SDBA) competitions. "Competing alongside my teammates, many of whom were much younger, was incredibly rewarding," Jonathan shares. "Sharing the boat with them and representing SUSS at competitions brought a deep sense of pride and accomplishment."

The recognition of his contributions with a special award was a significant milestone. "This award signifies the hard work and dedication of the entire team," he emphasises. "It underscores the importance of teamwork and the power of collective effort in achieving shared goals."

For Jonathan, success transcends individual achievements. "True success lies in personal growth and continuous improvement," he reflects. "It's about embracing challenges, learning from setbacks, and striving to become the best version of oneself."
