Associate Professor Sirene Lim

Sirene Lim is currently Dean, S R Nathan School of Human Development (NSHD) at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS). Sirene first started her career in secondary schools/junior college before switching to preschool education after a stint with the Ministry of Education at a time when it was developing its first iteration of the national kindergarten curriculum framework. She completed her Doctor of Education at Teacher College, Columbia University, USA. In SUSS, she has been instrumental in creating the only full-time undergraduate early childhood degree programme available in a local public university; expanding the faculty, and creating a pathway for early childhood educator-leaders to obtain a postgraduate degree. Sirene’s research interests include early childhood policy and systems, children’s culture and agency, curricular issues, and teacher learning. Her publications have appeared in journals such as Contemporary Issues in Early Childhood, Global Studies of Childhood, and Educational Management Administration & Leadership. As an educator-researcher, Sirene continues to contribute to journal reviewing and editorial work in the international academic community. Locally, she is on the Board of the National Institute of Early Childhood Development (NIEC); she serves mainly government agencies and non-profit organizations to raise the level of professional knowledge and catalyze local research to inform policy and practice.
