Overview
The Minor/Specialist Certificate in Data Science equips learners with core skills in data analysis, statistics, machine learning, and visualisation, using tools like Python and SQL. Designed for professionals, or career changers, it offers practical, hands-on experience to solve real-world problems with data. As data becomes central across industries, the certificate boosts employability and signals readiness for data-focused roles. It serves as a strong stepping stone to positions such as data analyst, or business intelligence specialist, while supporting long-term career growth in the data-driven economy.
Curriculum
The minor/specialist certificate consists of 6 courses, including 4 compulsory and 2 elective courses, which can be completed within 2 years.
Courses with an asterisk can stack towards the BSc Information and Communication Technology.

Eligibility
The specialist certificate is open to CET students as well as students enrolled in an undergraduate programme. Students enrolled in an undergraduate programme can take the specialist certificate as a minor.
- At least 18 years of age.
- GCE A-Level with two passes (prior to 2006) or two H2 passes (from 2006), local polytechnic diploma, International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma, or NUS High School diploma.
- Applicants with a ITE diploma or other diploma qualifications plus an acceptable SAT or ACT (with writing) score may be considered for admission on a case by case basis.
- If not, at least 5 GCE O-Level passes and an interview.
Fees
For CET students, please click here for the course fees. SkillsFuture Credit and other schemes may be used to offset the course fees.
The application fee is $60 (before GST) for first-time CET applications, which is non-refundable.
For students enrolled in an undergraduate degree programme, undergraduate course fees apply.
Completion
To attain the specialist certificate, students need to pass all the courses. Students are encouraged to complete all the courses within 3 years.
Upon meeting the requirements, CET students can apply for the certificate. They can go on to pursue BSc Information and Communication Technology, subject to the admission requirements of the programme. Only relevant courses with at least a C grade can stack towards the bachelor’s degree.
Students enrolled in BSc Information and Communication Technology or any other undergraduate programme will be automatically issued the certificate upon meeting the requirements.
