I chose the Minor in Tamil Language as I have always had a strong interest in Tamil and wanted the opportunity to study the language beyond everyday use.
My experience in the minor has allowed me to develop a much deeper understanding of Tamil, particularly in areas such as translation, linguistics, and literature. While some courses were challenging, especially the more technical aspects of Tamil linguistics, working through them also strengthened my understanding of the language and encouraged me to persevere.
One of the most valuable aspects of the minor for me has been its relevance beyond university. I recently started working for Tamil Murasu, where I use Tamil professionally for translation and journalism. The knowledge and skills I developed through the minor have therefore complemented my professional experience and helped me become more conscious of how I use the language in different contexts.
