Professor Janice Orrell is an active academic researcher at Flinders University, focusing on Work Integrated Learning (WIL), assessment in higher education and higher degree supervision. In 2001, her team won a national award for an institutional programme of induction and learning for early career academics. She authored the WIL Good Practice Guide (2011) and co-authored the book Work Integrated Learning: A Guide to Effective Practice (2010).
Registered with the Tertiary Education Quality Standards Agency, Professor Orrell is an advisory consultant/evaluator for national higher education projects. She is an Academic Board member in two Higher Education institutions. She has been given Honorary Life Membership of the Australian Cooperative Education Network (ACEN 2016) and the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia (HERDSA 2017) for her contribution to higher education research and practice.
In 2021, she received the USA Cooperative Education and Internship Association (CEIA) James W Wilson award for outstanding contribution to research, and in 2022, she received a HERDSA Leadership Award for her leadership in higher education research and development.
