My SUSS Journey: Empowering Vulnerable Communities with Data and FinTech

My journey through the Master of Social Sciences (MSSC) programme at SUSS perfectly showcases my deep dedication to improving the lives of underprivileged individuals, families, and caregivers. Driven by a genuine passion for making a meaningful social impact, I looked beyond traditional fields like social work and gerontology, finding unique opportunities within the MSSC programme. I chose to specialise in Data Analytics & Visualisation and Financial Technology (FinTech), a distinctive combination that aligned with my vision of tackling systemic challenges through innovative solutions.

During the programme, I eagerly embraced the challenge of merging social sciences with advanced technology. I developed robust skills in data analytics and financial modelling, exploring how these tools could be leveraged to address social inequalities. For instance, I used the data analytics knowledge and techniques gained from my course to investigate the performance of past fundraising campaigns for an organisation. This led to valuable insights and tangible strategies for future campaigns. For my applied project, I conducted research into using blockchain technology to better serve vulnerable communities. These experiences not only expanded my skill set but also transformed my approach to complex societal issues.

The SUSS programme also broadened my understanding of interdisciplinary collaboration, highlighting the immense potential of combining diverse fields to create impactful change. I credit the faculty, my research supervisor, and my peers for cultivating an environment that truly encouraged exploration, innovation, and personal growth.
