Synopsis
This course discusses how stylistics can enhance language effectiveness in social media. It will explore areas of genre as well as appropriate and effective language use in social media. The course will incorporate language analysis of language choice, diction and function as well as denotative, figurative meaning within the context of language in social media. Students will analyse language use across a raft of social media platforms like Twitter, micro blogs, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. Students will appraise how language differs in scripted and spontaneous youtube recordings with a focus on the limitations and stylistic elements in the projection of identity, involvement and foregrounding to achieve the desired outcomes.
