Synopsis

Sustainable governance and reporting have implications on risk management strategies and the overall trustworthiness of organisations, entities, and institutions, ultimately affecting their longterm security and success. GSS522 Sustainable Governance and Reporting will examine the nexus between diverse global trends, reporting, and sustainable governance of organisations. This course focuses on digital, social, environmental, and political elements that affect the operations and sustainability of organisations. Similarly, students will be introduced on the importance of organisational commitment to enforce safeguards and strategies that emphasises environment, social, and governance factors. While external concerns and dynamics influence the way organisations function, it is also a requisite for organisations to ensure that their objectives and strategies protect the environment and the broader community. This course equips students with an appreciation for how organisations progress with local, regional, and global concerns, why honest reporting on the progress of keeping up with and accounting for external trends is important, and how organisations can work towards sustainable governance despite the inherent challenges, even in times of crises. By the end of the course, students should be able to explain the imperativeness of sustainable governance and reporting, the challenges to doing so, and offer best practices on how this can be done while circumventing difficulties.
