MIP555 IP Governance in International Relations aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to understand global IP developments, governance frameworks, and how to convert patent analytics into actionable IP intelligence for informed decision-making. This includes patent network analysis, patent mapping, and the application of AI in IP. By leveraging insights from patent analytics, students will be able to evaluate and offer recommendations that align IP development with the strategic goals of their organizations. The course covers two key areas: patent analytics and IP governance. Starting with patent visualisation and deployment, students will use patent network analysis and IP intelligence to make strategic decisions, particularly in R&D and co-opetition contexts. They will also explore the role of AI in patent analysis and gain an understanding of how legal technology shapes the future of IP in diverse business scenarios. Additionally, the course examines the impact of geopolitical shifts, such as the rise of friendshoring and anti-globalisation trends, on IP governance and global IP developments. Students will adopt a consulting approach to address real-world business challenges, conducting patent analyses and making strategic recommendations.
