Synopsis

The distribution and logistics function in supply chain management (SCM) is vital in overseeing the management of storage and movement of goods to customers. SCM205 Warehouse Management explores the concepts, processes, and strategies essential for optimising warehouse operations. The course is structured around key aspects of warehousing, such as receiving and putaway processes, order picking, replenishment, value-added and returns management. Students will examine warehouse layout design and use of storage and handling equipment to enhance operational efficiency. The course delves into Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and latest innovations driving modern warehouse management. Learners will gain insights on pricing for warehouse services as well as performance management tools. In addition, this course emphasises the importance of workplace safety and health as well as sustainability practices in warehousing. Throughout the course, students will develop the skills and knowledge needed to effectively manage warehousing functions, align them with broader supply chain objectives, and stay ahead of industry changes.
