Course Code: SCM207
Synopsis
The distribution and logistics function in supply chain management (SCM) is vital in overseeing the management of storage and movement of goods to customers. SCM207 Transport Management provides an understanding of the concepts, processes and strategies essential for effective delivery of freight in international and domestic contexts. The course covers various transport modes – land, air, sea, and intermodal – focusing on their unique benefits and challenges. Learners will gain insights on distribution processes that address key decisions in selecting modes, carriers, routes as well as delivery execution, including last-mile delivery. The course explores the role of third-party logistics (3PL) and vendor management, offering perspectives into managing external partners effectively. Students will gain insights on transport optimisation techniques in areas such as hub operations, fleet management, transport management systems (TMS), routing and scheduling. Transport risk management, transport pricing and sustainable practices in transport rates are addressed to prepare students for future challenges. Through practical case studies, data-driven tools, and modern strategies, students will be equipped to manage and optimise transport networks in diverse, dynamic supply chains.
