Synopsis

This module introduces drawing as a medium for representation, expression and meaning making. Designed to expand students’ understanding of drawing through perceptual and conceptual workshops, this module will also examine contemporary art approaches to this age old art form. A studio-thinking approach will be modelled in this course.

Learning Outcome

  • Apply theoretical underpinnings of perceptual and conceptual drawing.
  • Demonstrate foundational principles and approaches of drawings from a perceptual or conceptual domain.
  • Explain the approaches for learning of drawing in a classroom and its implications for the development of the whole child.
  • Create a series of drawn works using pencil-drawing techniques, alongside other drawing tools and media.
  • Develop ideas through exploring different ways in which techniques, equipment and materials could be used, adapted and combined.
  • Employ any appropriate media and techniques to express artistic intentions.
