Synopsis

ECC502 Advanced Studies in Child Development and Research aims to delve into theories and research methods in child development to help students gain a profound understanding and professional knowledge of the process of children's growth. The course will introduce fundamental theoretical issues in child development, elucidate relevant theories and schools of thought concerning children's behavior, cognition, personality, and socialisation, and discuss the causes, mechanisms, and related theories of child development. Through this study, participants will solidify their theoretical foundation and knowledge in child development, acquire an understanding of various theoretical perspectives, fundamental viewpoints, and recent advancements, and be able to preliminarily apply these theories to describe, explain, and predict child development. Additionally, this course emphasizes the cultivation of students' research skills. Through this course, students will possess the theoretical knowledge, research skills, and critical thinking abilities necessary to contribute to the field of child development.
