Synopsis
MBA532 Human Capital Management: Challenges and Future Directions explores the evolving landscape of human capital management through the lens of contemporary challenges and future trends. From a macro, strategic perspective, students will evaluate the critical role of human capital management in achieving organisational goals and navigating change or crisis situations. In view of an increasingly globalised economy and heightened social and cultural disparities, this course will address crucial topics such as diversity, inclusion, fautlines, and cross-cultural management. The rapid evolution of human resources functions, driven in part by technological advancement and digital transformation, will also be a key focus. Students will assess modern approaches to recruitment, compensation, learning, development, and termination, alongside the utilisation of people analytics and other powerful tools enabled by information technology. Also included in this course are the challenges and opportunities presented by remote work, virtual teams, and issues related to employee well-being and work-life balance, particularly in the post-pandemic era. Lastly, students will look into unconventional practices, dilemmas, and contingency factors that they may encounter in human capital management. Through a blend of seminars, case studies, interactive activities, in- and after-class discussions, assignments, and self-learning, students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed for effective human capital management in today’s dynamic and complex environments.
