MBA542 Governance, Risk and Sustainability is designed for students to develop a comprehensive understanding of the interconnectedness between corporate governance, corporate social responsibility (CSR), risk management, and sustainability. This course equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary to lead their organisations effectively in today’s dynamic and complex business landscape. The course presents the concepts and fundamentals of corporate governance, examining how corporations are directed and controlled. This area has gained prominence in the light of major financial scandals worldwide, prompting countries, such as Singapore, Japan, the UK, etc., to issue Codes of Corporate Governance. These codes stipulate the role of Board in risk assessment, and management and mandate the Board to consider sustainability issues as part of its strategic planning and formulation. Additionally, the course provides students with an invaluable opportunity to delve deeply into Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and technology adoption, two critical components for contemporary corporations striving for sustainability. As a result, students will be better equipped to incorporate governance, risk management, and sustainability into their strategic decision-making processes. This holistic approach ensures that students are prepared to address the multifaceted challenges of modern business environments, making informed decisions that balance economic performance with social and environmental responsibility.
