Inclusive and Accessible Learning

SUSS strives to promote an inclusive and accessible learning environment for all students regardless of their abilities and backgrounds. Students with disabilities or special needs are encouraged to declare their conditions to the university. By doing so, they will be able to access the Special Educational Needs (SEN) Support to empower them to have a successful university experience.

Prospective students may declare their conditions in their university application, and current SUSS students may submit their declaration by emailing the SEN Support team at [email protected].

Special Educational Needs (SEN) Support refers to access arrangements or accommodations that support students with disabilities and special needs. In SUSS, SEN Support is overseen by  SUSS Student Life (STL) from the  Student Success Centre (SSC).

The SEN Support team works collaboratively with the students and relevant departments within SUSS to facilitate the support requests both in the academic and non-academic settings.

In addition to access arrangements or accommodations, students may also tap on the SEN Fund to procure learning support services and Assistive Technology (AT).

Examples of Support:

  • Extra time for exams
  • Live captioning
  • Buddy support
  • Use of assistive technology for exams
  • Alternative assessment arrangements
  • Accessible physical classroom arrangements
  • Accessible student events and activities
  • Use of accessible parking lots
  • Personalised campus orientation tour
  • Speech-to-text or Sign Language interpretation

We encourage students to reach out early to the SEN Support team via [email protected] to discuss their access or learning needs with the Accessibility Advisor.

Uncertain if you need any support at this time? We welcome you to simply reach out for a chat with the SEN Support team.
