Past GIIP Destinations
Students from the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) recently embarked on an immersive learning journey to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, as part of the Global Industry Immersion Programme (GIIP) focused on Early Childhood Education (ECE).
Organised in collaboration with Global Embassy (under Intention Concept Company Limited), the programme provided students with immersive exposure to Vietnam’s ECE landscape through a blend of theory sessions, experiential workshops, classroom interactions, and cross-cultural learning experiences.
Throughout the programme, students participated in a series of immersive and experiential ECE sessions, including:
- Theory: The Rights of the Child
- Reggio Emilia session - “100 Ways to Know, 100 Doors to Grow”
- Kindermusik Workshop: The Role of Music and Movement in Early Childhood Education
- Orff Schulwerk for Early Childhood Education (ECC)
- Yoga Storytelling and movement-based pedagogy
- Final group presentations and reflective sharing
Through these sessions, students gained first-hand insights into child-centred learning approaches, facilitation techniques, music and movement pedagogy, and cross-cultural educational practices within Vietnam’s ECE environment.
The programme also encouraged students to reflect critically on how creative pedagogies, learning environments, and experiential approaches can shape children’s learning and development.
Beyond the academic experience, the programme strengthened students’ global outlook, adaptability, communication skills, and appreciation of diverse educational practices — key competencies for future educators in an increasingly interconnected world.
18 students from the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) recently took part in this student exchange programme, an enriching journey of cultural discovery and cross-border friendship.
As part of the programme, students experienced traditional Chinese crafts firsthand, including:
- 扎染 (tie-dye)
- 蜡染 (batik)
- 香囊 (sachet making)
- 马尾绣 (horsehair embroidery)
- 茶艺 (tea-making)
Beyond these hands-on activities, the students listened to moving stories and heard about the rich history of the people of Guizhou. Through these personal sharings, they gained a deeper appreciation of the inspiration behind traditional practices and the resilience shown by locals, especially during challenging periods like the COVID-19 pandemic, when they faced medical shortages with strength and patience.
They also learned about Guizhou’s remarkable infrastructure achievements, such as building bridges across mountainous landscapes, a powerful symbol of determination and progress.
Most meaningfully, students formed lasting friendships with peers from China, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Despite language differences, the connections made were genuine and heartfelt.
A warm thank you to the Guizhou Education Association for International Exchange, all the local hosts, and the SUSS Career Development team for making this unforgettable journey possible!
