We are thrilled to announce the inaugural SUSS Graduate Research Symposium 2026 – a dedicated platform to showcase the impactful research undertaken by our vibrant community of graduate students.
This symposium will bring together students from the Master of Social Sciences (MSSC), Master of Applied Research in Social Sciences (MRESS), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), PhD (Gerontology) and Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) programmes, together with their supervisors, to share research insights, foster collaboration, and engage in meaningful academic dialogue. SUSS students from other graduate programmes are also warmly welcome to participate.
The symposium will feature both Oral and Poster presentations across four interdisciplinary clusters, reflecting SUSS’s commitment to addressing real-world challenges through applied and socially relevant research:
- Crime, Justice & Social Reintegration
- Mental Health, Caregiving & Human Flourishing
- Work, Learning & Technological Transformation
- Culture, Religion & Societal Change in Asia

Call for Abstract
Graduate students are invited to submit abstracts for oral and poster presentations. Submissions should present original research, work in progress, or theoretical and methodological reflections aligned with one of the conference clusters listed below.
Conference Clusters
Authors must indicate at least one thematic cluster for their submission:
1. Crime, Justice, and Social Reintegration
Topics may include (but are not limited to) criminology, restorative justice, policing, incarceration, rehabilitation, victimology, and justice-related policy and practice.
2. Mental Health, Caregiving, and Human Flourishing
This cluster welcomes research on mental health, well-being, caregiving practices, health inequalities, disability, ageing, resilience, and interdisciplinary approaches to human flourishing.
3. Work, Learning, and Technological Transformation
Submissions may explore changes in work, education, skills, organisations, digitalisation, artificial intelligence, automation, platform economies, and the social implications of technological change.
4. Culture, Religion, and Societal Change in Asia
This cluster focuses on cultural, religious, and social transformations, including identity, migration, tradition and modernity, governance, social movements, and comparative perspectives.
Abstract Requirements
1. Length: 250–300 words (excluding title and keywords)
2. Language: English
3. Title: Clear and descriptive
4. Keywords: 3–5 keywords
5. Content: Abstracts should clearly state:
- Research question or objective
- Theoretical framework or background
- Data and methods (if applicable)
- Key findings or expected contributions
Presentation Formats
Applicants may indicate their preferred presentation format, though final decisions will be made by the conference committee.
- Oral Presentations: Selected papers will be assigned a 15-minute presentation slot, followed by 5-min Q&A.
- Poster Presentations: Posters should visually present research questions, methods, findings, and implications. Poster sessions are designed for interactive discussion and feedback.
Eligibility
Submissions are open to graduate students from the Master of Social Sciences (MSSC), Master of Applied Research in Social Sciences (MRESS), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), PhD (Gerontology) and Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) programmes. SUSS students from other graduate programmes are also warmly welcome to participate. Co-authored submissions are permitted, but the presenting author must be a graduate student.
Review Process
All abstracts will undergo a review process by a scientific panel based on:
- Relevance to the selected conference cluster
- Clarity and academic rigour
- Originality and novelty
- Potential contribution and impact to scholarship, policy, or practice
Submission Instructions
Submit abstracts by completing this form by 30th June 2026.
Authors will be notified of acceptance and presentation format by email. Detailed presentation guidelines will be provided upon acceptance.
Graduate students who are not presenting but who are keen to attend the symposium may register.
