From a lone climber last year to a formidable team of ten, the SUSS Outdoor Adventure Interest Group (ODAIG) made a powerful statement at SMU Gravical 2025, Singapore's premier bouldering competition. It wasn't just about climbing; it was a journey of resilience, self-discovery, and the power of community.

SMU Gravical, renowned for its challenging routes and top-tier climbers, is a true test of mental and physical strength. For SUSS students, it became a platform to not only showcase their skills but also to redefine what it means to compete.

Cheang Yiu Wei Joel, a Year 4 Social Work student, aimed to elevate SUSS's presence in the climbing community. 'I wanted to show that SUSS climbers are a force to be reckoned with,' Joel shared. While the pressure was initially daunting, he discovered that the true victory lay in personal growth and the shared joy of the climb. 'It's not just about reaching the top,' he reflected, 'it's about the encouragement, the laughter, and the celebration of every attempt.'

For Lee Zhi Hui Maevis, a Year 3 Marketing student, Gravical was a battle against self-doubt. 'I wanted to prove to myself that I could overcome my limiting beliefs,' Maevis said. Entering the Novice Women's category, she focused on enjoying the experience, but surprised herself by exceeding all expectations. 'Achieving 4T5Z wasn't just a score; it was a testament to my progress and resilience.'

Beyond individual achievements, the event highlighted the incredible camaraderie within ODAIG. 'Seeing my teammates cheering me on from the sidelines made me feel like I belonged,' Maevis expressed. 'ODAIG is more than a group; it's a family that embraces everyone, regardless of skill level.'

The individual nature of the competition demanded self-reliance and strategic thinking, providing invaluable lessons in personal responsibility. As ODAIG continues to expand its reach, Gravical 2025 stands as a landmark achievement, showcasing the group's dedication to pushing boundaries and fostering a strong, adventure-driven community.
