SUSS Skate Interest Group’s Embraced Sustainability with Eco-Friendly Games

The SUSS Skate Interest Group (IG) organised an exciting and engaging event at HiRoller Indoor Skating Rink - welcoming all full-time and part-time students to join the session. With a 65% increase in the number of participants this year, the event was gaining traction with many fresh faces gracing the rink.
A beginner-friendly skating session began in the evening, teaching participants the basics of skating and important safety precautions. Beyond teaching new skating skills, the event also emphasized eco-friendly practices minimised environmental impacts. For this session, the SUSS Skate Interest Group stood by reducing waste and promoted sustainability by incorporating recycled materials into various games and activities. For example, toilet rolls were repurposed as bowling pins, while plastic bottles were collected and transformed into ring toss targets. The initiative showed how unwanted and/or used materials could be creatively given a second life by transforming them props used for recreational activities. Not to mention, this strategy also benefitted the students as it reduced not only waste but also expenses.
Apart from the mentioned activities and other well-liked games such as bingo and charades, participants wrote personal messages and words of appreciation for each other - spreading positivity throughout the event.
Leow Wan Ling, a SUSS Year 3 Bachelor of Business Analytics student, reflected, “I believe the event was a success overall! Everyone was having a great time, and the positive energy from the friendly and welcoming members made the event even more enjoyable. A big thank you to the organisers for planning such a wonderful event and for the thoughtful gifts of mini bouquets and chocolates!”
Tok Ke Xuan Winnie, a SUSS Year 1 Bachelor of Events Management student, added, “I had a great time at the event! It was refreshing to meet new people. The activities were enjoyable, and I loved that there was no pressure to complete all the activities, making it a relaxed and fun experience.”
