On 7 April, the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) welcomed Professor Trisha Tsui-Chuan Lin and students from the Master’s Programme in Global Communication and Innovative Technology (GCIT) at National Chengchi University, Taiwan.

Hosted by our Centre for Chinese Studies (CCS@SUSS), the visit was anchored by a rich exchange with two key figures behind the Singapore Chinese Film Festival (SCFF): Associate Professor Foo Tee Tuan, Director of CCS and Festival Director of SCFF, and Mr Kenneth Tan, Chairman of the Singapore Film Society and SCFF advisor.

Associate Professor Foo Tee Tuan, Director (CCS@SUSS) gave an insightful presentation of SCFF, its curatorial principles, and the challenges in curation.

Associate Professor Foo Tee Tuan, Director of CCS@SUSS and the SCFF director, provided an overview of the SCFF’s mission, film curation principles, the challenges of organising a film festival, and the strategies to surmount the challenges.

Mr. Kenneth Tan, Chairman of Singapore Film Society presented his commercial perspectives on optimizing public-private sector collaboration outcomes for film and media industries.

Mr. Kenneth Tan, Chairman of the Singapore Film Society and the SCFF advisor, also shared the growth and development of Singapore’s film and media industry, highlighting the value and collaboration opportunities between the public and private sectors.

 The GCIT students found the topics interesting and posed numerous queries to find out more about SCFF and the opportunities available in the local media scene. After the session, the curious minds weren’t content with a Q&A — conversations continued over lunch, where stories, strategies, and shared ambitions flowed.

Notably, Alex Wu, one of the GCIT students, would stay in Singapore for an internship with the Singapore Chinese Film Festival 2025, from which he could gain hands-on experience in cultural event management.

 

4月7日台湾政治大学 “全球传播与创新科技硕士学位课程” (GCIT)主任及师生一行十人到本校访问,由中华学术中心(CCS@SUSS)接待。参访期间与新加坡华语电影节(SCFF)的两位主要负责人交流。

中华学术中心主任符诗专副教授同时也是SCFF的策展人,他为GCIT的学生讲解了新加坡华语电影节的宗旨、选片准则、挑战及应对策略。新加坡电影协会主席兼SCFF顾问陈继贤先生则说明了新加坡影视行业的发展,以及如何促进公共和私人领域在这方面的合作。GCIT的学生对新加坡的影视行业相当感兴趣,积极提问。

讲座结束后,GCIT一行人与两位主讲人共进午餐并进一步交流。其中一位GCIT学生吴晨右,将留在新加坡,参与2025年第十三届新加坡华语电影节的实习工作,从幕后亲历文化活动的筹办过程,深化理解,并积累实务经验。
