The Public Safety and Security Interest Group’s (PPS IG) Exercise SGREADY 2025 was a true testament to the power of community, service, and resilience. In commemoration of Total Defence 41 and SG60, PSS IG members came together once again to organise a meaningful initiative that went beyond just providing essential items, it was about strengthening our collective commitment to preparedness and care for those who need it most.

This year’s donation drive was bigger than ever, spanning across four key phases. The students started the initiative by rallying support through a QR donation campaign. They then moved on to having a physical donation booth set up, where students, donors, and volunteers could gather to raise funds for a good cause. The drive continued as 18 volunteers came together to sort, organise, and prepare the donated items conscientiously, ensuring each pack contained useful daily essentials for the families receiving them.

Lastly, the students proceeded with the most crucial step—delivering the care packs! With the incredible support from our very own advocacy group 1SUSS and partners like Nexus, the Army, Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, Singapore Civil Defence Force, Singapore Prison Services, Eagle Brand, and Sunshine Bread, the students were able to provide 400 care packs filled with essential food items and daily necessities to the residents at Clementi!
The distribution team helped to deliver the packs to the families.
These contributions made a real difference as their generosity has helped the students reach more families and has paved the way for future collaborations, which PSS IG is truly excited about!
The efforts behind this initiative would not have been possible without the dedication of the participating volunteers. Throughout this initiative, 18 volunteers helped to pack the care bags, ensuring that each one contained useful and nutritious essentials.
On distribution day, 13 volunteers, including two SUSS Student Life (STL) staff members, personally delivered these packs to the residents.

One of our student volunteers, Natalie Koh Wen Xuan, reflected on her experience:
"Being a part of this initiative has been incredibly fulfilling. It’s not just about donating items, it’s about standing together as a community, showing up for those who need support, and making a tangible difference in people’s lives. Seeing how something as simple as a care pack can brighten someone’s day puts things into perspective."
Nur Syafina Binte Imran, a Year 1 PSS student, also shared about her participation:
"For my first donation drive as a university student, it was truly a great experience. From packing the donated items to personally handing them out, it made me better understand why we should reach out to our communities often. Seeing their smiles truly made my day."
This year marks a major milestone for PSS IG. From the early days as a student-led initiative to now securing major sponsors and national agency partnerships, the group has come a long way. It is a clear sign of their growth and affirms their commitment to serving Singapore and supporting national efforts in safety, preparedness, and social resilience.
From faculty encouragement to student participation, SUSS provides the foundation to scale up student efforts and make an even greater impact each year.

Once again, a huge thank you to all donors, volunteers, and supporters who played a part in making this initiative a success.
Looking ahead, PSS IG will remain committed to growing this initiative, strengthening its outreach, and collaborating with more organisations that share the same vision. Whether through sponsorships, partnerships, or hands-on volunteering, PSS IG welcomes like-minded individuals and groups to join them in making a difference.
