All set at Changi Airport – our SUSS Outdoor Adventure Interest Group (ODAIG) team stands united behind the club flag, ready to embark on their first overseas cycling adventure in Taiwan.
The SUSS ODAIG recently completed its first overseas cycling expedition, an 8-day journey across Taiwan. Designed to introduce members to long-distance cycling beyond Singapore’s limited terrains, this trip brought ten ODAIG participants together with peers from the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU 國立成功大學) Cycling Club. Together, they explored Taiwan’s scenic coastal roads, mountainous landscapes, and vibrant cycling culture.

SUSS ODAIG and NCKU Cycling Club members gather in front of Xincheng Taroko Station (新城太魯閣火車站) – proudly holding their team flags and bicycles side by side, marking the start of their shared cycling adventure.
This inaugural overseas trip marked a milestone for ODAIG, offering a new kind of adventure that pushed members beyond physical and mental boundaries. From pedalling through lush paddy fields in Chishang (池上) to navigating winding mountain roads and bonding at local homestays, the team experienced a side of cycling far different from Singapore’s urban routes.

Chew Zhi Xuan (Year 3, English Language and Literature Student) cycles with a smile along the scenic Brown Avenue (伯郎大道) in Taitung on the way to visit the iconic “solo” tree at Taitung.
Chew Zhi Xuan, a Year 3 English Language and Literature student, shared how the experience transformed her mindset: “Past me wouldn't have fathom the idea of cycling more than 25km, but now I just want to pick up my bike and ride as much as I can.” What she initially anticipated to be a straightforward cycling trip evolved into a memorable journey marked by scenic beauty, resilience, and strong friendships.

SUSS ODAIG and NSKU Cycling Club members gathered for their first lunch together at a shop (佳興冰菓店), a well-known spot celebrated for its signature lemonade, sharing smiles and conversation over a meaningful meal.
The bonds formed along the way were as memorable as the views. Whether being followed by a friendly stray dog for kilometres or cheering each other on through daily rides, the team built strong connections that extended beyond the road.
Beyond the breathtaking landscapes and personal triumphs, this expedition highlights what ODAIG continues to stand for – a supportive and inclusive space for growth, exploration, and shared experiences. As the group gears up for more overseas adventures, ODAIG remains a community that pushes boundaries, celebrates resilience, and inspires one another.
Whether you are a seasoned adventurer or new to the outdoors, ODAIG opens the door to unforgettable journeys – on and off the road.
