The SUSS Skate Interest Group extends its heartfelt gratitude to all partners for the invaluable opportunity to collaborate to make this event possible. The support and partnership played a key role in creating a safe, inclusive and encouraging environment where the children and youth could learn, play, and grow.

Each day began with a warm welcome and an engaging introduction to basic skating techniques and safety guidelines, ensuring that all participants had a safe and enjoyable experience.

The children and youth engaged in a game of Tic Tac Toe on skates

The excitement continued with a friendly game of Tic Tac Toe on skates. Children and youth were divided into two teams and took turns skating across a large grid to place cones in empty squares, working together to form a line of three.

Next came the Colour Dash, where participants responded to colour calls by skating to retrieve the matching cone and bring it back. The quickest team in each round scored a win, adding excitement and energy to the day.

Beyond the games, the event offered a meaningful opportunity for the children and youth to learn to skate in a supportive and guided setting. It fostered teamwork, boosted confidence, and created lasting memories for everyone involved.

Megan Ong Xuan Ting, a SUSS Year 1 Psychology student, shared, “My experience was great! I thought it was meaningful for us to collaborate with a charity organisation like Care Corner. I’ve learned that giving back to society can take many forms – including imparting skills to younger individuals from underprivileged backgrounds. My interaction with the children was pleasant; they were polite, well-behaved, and I had a lot of fun making friends with them and bonding over skating.”

Jamie Lim MingXuan, a SUSS Year 1 Business Analytics student, reflected,

“One key takeaway for me was learning how to communicate and guide children through instructions. I was pleasantly surprised by how attentive and responsive the children and youth were.”

Ng Choon Kai, a SUSS Year 2 Finance student, added, “What really stood out to me was the kids’ fearlessness – they weren’t afraid to fall and just kept getting back up with determination. It’s a mindset I truly admire and hope to learn from.”

For those interested in exploring the world of skating, the SUSS Skate Interest Group welcomes students of all skill levels. With regular training sessions and engaging activities, it is a great way to stay active, build confidence, and connect with like-minded peers.
