Through this partnership, the SUSS Netball team sought to give back to the community, using sport as a tool to promote teamwork, physical movement, and emotional growth.

Grenette Tjia, President of the SUSS Netball Team and a Year 2 Full-Time Supply Chain Management student, shared: “Seeing the children’s smiles and watching their confidence grow with each activity was truly heartwarming. This experience reminded me of the power of sport — not just as a game, but to connect, uplift, and include. I’m incredibly proud of our team for stepping up with empathy and enthusiasm.”

Cheyenne Chew, Deputy Head of Welfare & Publicity and a Year 2 Early Childhood Education student, reflected: “While we aimed to teach the children netball basics, I learned so much from them too. Their perseverance and team spirit inspired me — they showed that learning takes time, but progress is always possible. It was heartening to see them cheer each other on, celebrating wins and navigating losses together. Truly an eye-opening experience.”

Natasha, Vice-President and a Year 2 Finance student, added: “Interacting directly with the children was deeply meaningful. Though some were shy at first, encouragement helped them open up. It reminded me how simple games — and just being present — can profoundly impact someone’s day.”

More than just a day of sport, this collaboration was a celebration of connection, growth, and community. Through drills and play, the children not only developed new skills but also embraced values like teamwork and resilience. As much as the session aimed to inspire them, it also left a lasting impact on the netball team, reinforcing the power of sport to build confidence and foster inclusivity.
