The SUSS Archery Competition Group (CG) participated in the 16th NTU Institutional Archery Championships (NTU-IAC) 2026, held on 7–8 March at the NTU Sports Recreation Centre. This annual event brought together archers from ITE, Polytechnics, and universities across Singapore. Representing SUSS, the team competed with determination and pride, gaining valuable competitive exposure.

The competition featured qualification rounds, individual knockout matches, team events, and mixed-team knockout rounds. Among the highlights was the debut of compound women’s novice archer Soh Shi Hui Maedyn, who impressed by clinching gold in the qualification round. Graduating archer Ernst Kwok Jian Hong delivered a strong performance in the compound male open category, securing double gold medals in both his individual knockout and mixed-team knockout alongside teammates Carissa Goh and Tok Wee Peng.

Recurve novice Tristen Ng Ren Jie experienced his first major competition under challenging conditions, competing in the rain. At the same time, teammate Lee Jin Hui Perry staged a remarkable comeback in his individual match, recovering from a 5–1 deficit to win 6–5 after a tense shoot-off. These moments highlighted the team’s resilience and fighting spirit throughout the competition.

For Soh Shi Hui Maedyn, Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Year 1, the competition was both daunting and rewarding. They credited their seniors and Coach Shawn for their guidance, sharing that their support played a key role in their ability to perform. Reflecting on their journey, they expressed gratitude for the opportunity and satisfaction in proving their capabilities in their debut competition.

For Ernst Kwok Jian Hong, Bachelor of Building and Project Management, Year 4, the competition marked a full-circle moment. Having first competed in NTU-IAC as a polytechnic student, he returned as a graduating SUSS student while balancing work, studies, and training. He shared, “Coach Shawn told me to stay in my own lane and control the controllables. He challenged me to maintain a steady intensity—a 6/10—rather than redlining into an emotional overdrive.”

His perseverance paid off with double gold medals, but he emphasised that the true reward was the trust and camaraderie within the team. “Feeling my teammates’ absolute trust in me as I stepped up to make the final shots was more fulfilling than any individual score I have ever shot,” he shared, adding that the friendships built during competition are what endure beyond results.

For Tristen Ng Ren Jie, Bachelor of Science in Information and Communication Technology, Year 1, the NTU-IAC was a memorable debut. He shared that the competition was both exciting and meaningful, providing an opportunity to showcase the team’s preparation. Shooting in the rain added an element of unpredictability, but also made the experience more memorable and rewarding.

He also reflected on Perry’s dramatic comeback, which served as an inspiration for the team. Overall, Tristen expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent SUSS Archery, highlighting the experience as meaningful, allowing him to challenge himself while supporting his teammates.

The competition underscored the SUSS Archery CG's resilience, adaptability, and commitment. Athletes demonstrated strong performances and sportsmanship while gaining valuable lessons in perseverance and composure under pressure. Achievements such as Maedyn’s debut gold and Ernst’s double victories highlighted the team’s potential, while Perry’s comeback embodied the fighting spirit of SUSS Archery.

Looking ahead, the team aims to refine its training approach by exploring a range of training methods to further enhance performance.

The 16th NTU-IAC 2026 was a testament to the dedication and growth of the SUSS Archery Competition Group. The athletes’ contributions, together with the support of Coach Keith Teo, Coach Shawn Tay, and Vonica Lim (Student’s Life staff mentor), ensured strong preparation and guidance throughout the competition. Their collective efforts reinforced the team's values of perseverance, teamwork, and community.
