The 14th Singapore Chinese Film Festival (SCFF2026), jointly organised by the Singapore University of Social Sciences and the Singapore Film Society, was held from 24 April to 3 May 2026. A vibrant showcase of Chinese-language films from across the region was presented at the festival.
The opening night welcomed over 200 guests from the education, film, business and cultural sectors. The festival opened with The Waves Will Carry Us, directed by Lau Kek-huat and produced by Jin Ong. This film, which earned Vera Chen the Best Supporting Actress award at the 62nd Golden Horse Awards, examines identity politics in Malaysia while delving into the complexities of intergenerational migration and the evolving identities of the Chinese diaspora.

Over its 10-day run, the festival presented 34 film screenings and drew more than 5,000 attendees, with 13 sessions sold out. Following the strong audience support, additional screenings were arranged for A Foggy Tale, Deep Quiet Room and Mother Bhumi. Beyond the screenings, the festival fostered meaningful dialogue through 15 post-screening Q&A sessions, offering audiences opportunities to engage directly with the filmmakers and gain deeper insights into their works.

Among the festival highlights were two festival forums that brought filmmakers and scholars together for in-depth discussions. The first forum, Malaysian Chinese-Language Cinema: Filmmakers in Conversation, featured Lau Kek-huat, Jin Ong, and Chong Keat Aun. The panel shared how their personal experiences in Malaysia have shaped their storytelling and how they navigate filmmaking across regional contexts.

At the Got Pray Got Blessing Panel Discussion, Professor Kenneth Dean, Associate Professor Francis Lim, and Associate Professor Jack Chia offered their insights as scholars of religious studies. They discussed the religious practices and cultural contexts depicted in the Documentary Shorts: Got Pray Got Blessing, enriching audiences’ understanding of the traditions and beliefs presented on and beyond the screen.

由新加坡社科大学与新加坡电影协会联办的第14届新加坡华语电影节于4月24日拉开序幕,并于5月3日圆满落幕。本届电影节汇聚来自区域各地的华语电影作品,呈献一系列题材多元、风格丰富的精彩佳作。
电影节以廖克发执导和王礼霖制作的剧情长片《人生海海》作为开幕片,邀请了来自本地教育界、电影业、文化、商业及表演艺术等领域的嘉宾参与放映会。该片凭借陈雪甄的出色演出,荣获第62届金马奖最佳女配角。影片围绕马来西亚的身份政治议题展开,深入探讨跨世代迁移的复杂处境,以及华人离散社群不断演变的身份认同。
在为期10天的电影节期间,共放映34场电影,观影及活动参与人次超过5,000,其中多达13个场次的门票更是一扫而空。应观众的热情支持,剧情长片《大濛》、《深度安静》及《地母》各别加映一场。除放映活动外,主办方亦举办了15场映后交流活动,促进观众与来自国内外的电影人展开深入对话,让观众对作品有更深层次的理解。
本届电影节的一大亮点,是举办了两场汇聚电影人与学者进行深度对话的论坛。首场论坛“马来西亚华语电影面面观”邀请了廖克发、王礼霖和张吉安,分享他们在马来西亚的个人经历如何影响其创作,并交流了在跨区域电影制作中的实践与思考。
在“有拜有保佑”座谈会上,三位宗教研究学者——丁荷生教授、林克宜副教授与谢明达副教授,从学术视角分享了各自的研究见解,引领观众探讨《纪录短片集:有拜有保佑》中所呈现的宗教习俗与文化脉络,进一步丰富了观众对银幕内外传统与信仰的认识。
