Seniors in Kampong Chai Chee can loan care tech gadgets for free under a community pilot by SUSS-Nunchi Marine Age Well Program.

A new Care Tech Café, launched on 1 August 2026 during Singapore NDP 61st celebration is a meaningful gift to the residents of Kampong Chai Chee. It is a pop-out space which showcases a range of innovative eldercare technologies such as bio-tracking IoT ring programmed with exercise guide, virtual drumming app, medical handgrip, smart watches and companion robots. Seniors and caregivers get a first-hand feel of the tech devices and may loan them for free trial of up to two weeks.

This initiative aims to reduce barriers to technology adoption in Singapore, with common reasons being high cost, lack of trust and awareness. By personally trying out the health and wellness gadgets in the comfort of their homes, seniors and caregivers will gain a better understanding of the technological options available that may be adapted to suit their lifestyle preferences and needs.

Pop-up interactive space, Care Tech Café, is opened every Monday and third Sunday of the month, from 2-4pm, at Heartbeat@Bedok.

A caregiver and his older family member are taken with companion robot, Hyodol, here with A/P Kelvin Tan, Associate Professor, Gerontology Programmes, SUSS.

“Baristas”, who are seniors from the community, youth volunteers from Heartware Network and SUSS team run the café with the objective to uplift the technology literacy and awareness in the community, promote intergenerational learning and encourage community empowerment.

A visitor holds social robot, Kebbi (from Taiwan), to estimate its weight, as she explored the different features of the range of robots, including Hyodol (from Korea) on the table and LOVOT moving (from Japan) on the floor.

The project will organise technology and innovation workshops and feedback sessions with the community.  Eventually, more places around Singapore can enjoy the interactions with care technologies. Some organisations like MINDS has booked the time with us to visit the café.

Care Tech Café is an innovative community initiative spearheaded by the SUSS-Nunchi Marine Age Well Program, with support from the Kampong Chai Chee Citizens’ Consultative Committee and Kampong Chai Chee Community Club.

Currently, devices are available for loan to residents (seniors and caregivers) at Kampong Chai Chee area. Upon placing a refundable deposit, residents may loan the IoT ring, medical grip or a cute AI social robot (Duo Duo Miao) for up to two weeks. Different tech devices will be offered for loan each quarter as we refresh the line of products.

Care Tech Café is located at Culinary Studio, Heartbeat@Bedok.

Opening Hours: Every Monday and 3rd Sunday of month from 2-4pm
