On 11 and 12 November 2025, students and faculty members from the Public Safety and Security (PSS) programme attended the ASIS APAC Conference 2025, the largest corporate security event in the Asia-Pacific region. Across both days, our students and faculty were actively involved, with several speaking on panels, contributing their insights, and representing SUSS on an international stage.

Head of Programme Dr Razwana Begum and Associate Lecturer Beverly Roach were part of a four-member panel, “Empowering Security: Women, Opportunity, and the Future of a Safer World.” Together, they shared honest reflections on what it means to navigate and lead in the security industry as women.

The discussion highlighted that progress isn’t driven by women alone - strong female role models and supportive male allies are both essential in creating an inclusive environment. The panellists also unpacked the idea of the “glass ceiling,” noting that it doesn’t always stem from formal barriers, but often from deeply rooted cultural norms. And while those ceilings exist, they reminded the audience that they can be challenged and broken, with persistence, support, and the right opportunities.

After which, a panel featuring four final-year PSS students — Amber Tan, Darrill Chan, Leon Chew and Collin Chew — showcased the journey of ASIS Singapore NextGen student members and their growth as emerging security professionals.

They reflected on the networking sessions, company visits, mentorship programmes, and various opportunities that challenged them and expanded their horizons. Through their unique ‘students’ POV’, they offered candid insights into entering the security industry. They shared valuable perspectives for professionals seeking to attract, mentor, and empower the next generation of security leaders.

PSS students also made meaningful contributions to the event. Naazneen Ali, for instance, served as one of the three emcees for the two-day programme and helped coordinate a team of 10 PSS student volunteers who dedicated their time to support the event, even amid their examinations.

ASIS International’s heavily discounted student membership continues to open doors for students seeking an early advantage in a security career outside the public sector. Building a strong network, even while in school, has served these PSS students well, and they encourage more students to sign up and kickstart their careers!

“As Head of the PSS programme at SUSS, I’m proud to walk the talk with my students—especially in championing greater female involvement in security and safety. I’m deeply grateful to ASIS for opening doors to our students, and even more proud of how our students consistently rise above expectations, seizing every opportunity to learn, contribute, and excel.”

- Dr Razwana Begum, Head of Programme, Bachelor of Public Safety and Security

“The student members feel really honoured to be invited to the panel by the ASIS APAC Board. Our journey with ASIS Singapore Chapter’s NextGen Programme has opened so many doors, giving us internships, guidance, and a better understanding of the jobs available in corporate security. We’re thankful for all the support they’ve given us!”
