A meaningful afternoon at the movies brought together 100 seniors, caregivers, and family members from programmes and initiatives under the SUSS – The Ngee Ann Kongsi Social Impact Hub (Gerontology) to watch Dear You, a heartfelt Teochew film exploring family, heritage, and identity.
Made possible through the generous sponsorship of The Ngee Ann Kongsi, the outing was more than a movie screening. It became an opportunity for intergenerational bonding, cultural appreciation, and reminiscence. For many, the film brought back memories of their parents' journeys and sacrifices.

One participant, Jon, shared that his father was deeply moved by the film, as it reminded him of his own father, who had faithfully sent money back to their family in China through the traditional Qiaopi remittance system.
For 93-year-old Mdm Tan, who was born in Puning, China, the screening was especially meaningful. It had been 40 years since she last watched a Teochew film, and experiencing Dear You alongside her daughter, Suan, made the occasion even more special.

The outing was equally memorable for Mr Liew, his wife, and his 88-year-old wheelchair-bound mother-in-law. Despite her hearing decline, she was able to enjoy the film with the aid of a voice amplifier, making it a rare and cherished family experience.

At SUSS, we believe that meaningful experiences like these help strengthen family connections, celebrate our shared heritage, and enrich the well-being of older adults through community, culture, connection, reminisce and intergenerational bonding.
Our heartfelt appreciation to The Ngee Ann Kongsi for making this memorable experience possible.
