Overview
In Singapore and around the world, there has been an increasing emphasis on providing quality care and education to children as governments recognise the importance of investing early in their well-being and development. High-quality early childhood care and education (ECCE) services require well-equipped and continuously improving educators.
The curriculum for children at early childhood development centres forms the backbone of the interaction between the child and the educator. The GCECCURR programme offers educators the opportunity to deepen their skills and update their knowledge in child development and constructivist pedagogies by enhancing their understanding of related theories and applying them in their practice, so they can provide the best conditions for the learning and development of children.
Career Prospects
Graduates of the Graduate Certificate in Early Childhood Curriculum (GCECCURR) programme will understand how research on child development and contemporary perspectives on brain development have influenced early childhood curricula and pedagogy worldwide. They will also possess the knowledge and skills needed to apply these findings in classroom practices, ensuring optimal conditions for the learning and development of young children. Although this programme may not be a requirement for educators in the sector, it will position graduates advantageously for a better career trajectory.
Programme Structure
To graduate with the GCECCURR, students are required to complete the three courses (15 credit units) of the following courses listed in the Curriculum Plan.
