MSFCare Pilot Training
The Foundational Training for MSFCare Network Community Volunteers equips new volunteers with skills, knowledge, and empathy to engage with MSF’s diverse clients and beneficiaries. It features realistic case studies and interactive role-playing sessions, which the volunteers found impactful. Led by Prof Ang Hak Seng, the programme introduces the “5Ws of Helping” strategy: Clear, Attentive, Respect and Encourage (CARE) framework for empathetic communication, tree diagram for identifying root causes, strength-based approach for sustainable change, community mapping, and roadmap creation. This training strengthens connections between fellow volunteers, deepens impact, and broadens understanding of the social sector.

This training was a fantastic collaboration between SUSS and MSF, offering a unique learning experience through realistic case studies, engaging storytelling, and in-depth role plays. Participants gained a deeper understanding of volunteering while developing essential skills for their journey. They also had the opportunity to network and engage with fellow volunteers. The panel discussion which Prof Ang Hak Seng and I addressed provided a valuable platform for pressing questions and practical insights. We are pleased to support this well-structured program that empowers volunteers to make a meaningful impact.

The 5Ws of Helping gave me a solid framework for volunteering, making me feel more confident and prepared to support beneficiaries. I’d highly recommend this training to any new volunteer!

The role-play was integral to the session—it gave me insight into real-life situations and will be helpful during my house visits. It was eye-opening and valuable.
