Overview
With greater awareness of health concerns and as our society ages, health needs grow in Singapore, leading to a demand for professionals who can provide health coaching.
The suite of courses in the Specialist Certificate in Health Coaching integrates health-related knowledge and skills into a cohesive learning pathway that complements a student’s degree programme in Psychology and other related disciplines. Students will learn about the psychology of health, well-being, and wellness coaching.
Proficiency in these topics will not only enhance students’ competencies in health coaching but will also prepare them to contribute meaningfully to the evolving health and wellness needs of individuals in Singapore.
Curriculum
The specialist certificate consists of 3 courses, which can be completed within 1 year.

| PSY265 Health Psychology | Learn psychological theories that explain health and illness and the various types of intervention that can address these illnesses. |
Students need to complete PSY265 before taking PSY375. | Be equipped to apply health psychology principles in optimal functioning and well-being. Prepares students who are keen to become certified leaders in the Chronic Disease Self-Management Programme (CDSMP). |
| PSY475 Health and Wellness Coaching | Gain effective health coaching skills to help individuals engage in strategies to prevent the onset of chronic medical conditions. Co-developed and taught by experts from NHG Polyclinics, NHG Health. |
Eligibility
The specialist certificate is open to CET students as well as students enrolled in an undergraduate programme.
- At least 18 years of age.
- GCE A-Level with two passes (prior to 2006) or two H2 passes (from 2006), local polytechnic diploma, International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma, or NUS High School diploma.
- Applicants with a ITE diploma or other diploma qualifications plus an acceptable SAT or ACT (with writing) score may be considered for admission on a case by case basis.
- If not, at least 5 GCE O-Level passes and an interview.
Fees

The application fee is $60 (before GST) for first-time CET applications, which is non-refundable.
Completion
To attain the specialist certificate, students need to pass all the courses. Students are encouraged to complete all the courses within 3 years.
Upon meeting the requirements, CET students can apply for the certificate and go on to pursue BSc Psychology. Only courses with at least a C grade can stack towards the bachelor's degree.
Students enrolled in BSc Psychology will be automatically issued the certificate upon meeting the requirements.
