Overview

As mental health needs grow in Singapore, there is a demand for professionals who can respond effectively and compassionately.

Developed in partnership with industry experts, the Specialist Certificate in Helping Skills integrates essential helping skills into a cohesive learning pathway that complements a student's degree programme in Psychology and other related disciplines. Students will gain specialised knowledge and skills in psychological first aid, group facilitation, and mindfulness interventions.

Proficiency in these helping skills will not only enhance students' professional competencies and employability but will also prepare them to contribute meaningfully to the well-being of society and to meet the evolving mental health and social support needs in Singapore.

Curriculum

The specialist certificate consists of 3 courses, which can be completed within 1 year.

PSY381 Psychological First Aid and Crisis ManagementLearn psychological first aid skills to effectively support individuals in distress, through the Look-Listen-Link framework.
PSY382 Facilitating Groups: Growth Circle Facilitation TrainingGain effective facilitation skills to manage group dynamics, co-create an inclusive space, and foster genuine connections within groups.
PSY383 Designing and Facilitating Mindfulness InterventionsBe equipped with practical mindfulness tools for facilitating mindfulness interventions tailored to diverse needs of individuals.

Eligibility

The specialist certificate is open to CET students as well as students enrolled in an undergraduate programme.

Fees

Please click here for the course fees. SkillsFuture Credit and other schemes may be used to offset the course fees.

The application fee is $60 (before GST) for first-time CET applications, which is non-refundable.

Completion

To attain the specialist certificate, students need to pass all the courses. Students are encouraged to complete all the courses within 3 years.

Upon meeting the requirements, CET students can apply for the certificate and go on to pursue BSc Psychology. Only courses with at least a C grade can stack towards the bachelor's degree.

Students enrolled in BSc Psychology will be automatically issued the certificate upon meeting the requirements.
