SUSS Professional Certificate in AI for Adult Education Practice

The Professional Certificate in AI for Adult Education Practice is designed to strengthen the capabilities of adult educators, trainers, curriculum developers, learning designers, assessors, workplace learning practitioners and training managers in applying AI effectively and responsibly across adult education and training contexts. The programme equips participants with practical frameworks, tools and templates that can be applied directly to their professional practice.

The programme progresses from foundational GenAI literacy and critical judgement to the design of learning and curriculum for AI-enabled environments, before addressing three key areas of professional practice: assessment design and integrity in the age of AI; AI agents and agentic workflows for training and learning; and the evaluation and governance of AI applications.

Across the five courses, participants learn to prompt and critically evaluate AI outputs; design learning activities that define purposeful roles for educators, learners and AI; redesign assessment tasks and rubrics for environments where learners have access to GenAI; develop and supervise agentic workflows with appropriate human oversight, approval and escalation points; and evaluate AI applications against criteria such as accuracy, data governance, bias, suitability and vendor considerations.

Learning is highly applied, combining practical frameworks and case discussions with hands-on activities, peer review and facilitator consultation. Participants progressively develop the judgement and practical capabilities required to integrate AI into adult education practice in ways that are effective, responsible and fit for purpose.

Programme Structure

The programme comprises five two-day courses, totalling ten training days and 75 contact hours. Each course can be taken individually, is separately funded, and comes with its own certificate upon successful completion. Participants who complete all five courses within three years of starting their first course will receive the Professional Certificate in AI for Adult Education Practice from SUSS.

1

(CET1015) Generative AI Literacy for Adaptive Teaching Practice

This course equips educators, trainers and learning designers with the knowledge and practical skills to use GenAI effectively and responsibly in their professional practice. Participants learn to apply prompting strategies, critically evaluate AI-generated outputs, and make informed decisions about when and how GenAI should be used, with consideration for accuracy, bias, privacy, academic integrity and human oversight. The course also develops the judgement and adaptability needed to respond to evolving GenAI capabilities and their implications for teaching and learning.

2

(CET299) Adaptive Learning Design with GenAI: Teaching and Curriculum for a Changing AI Landscape

This course equips educators, trainers and learning designers to design and adapt learning for AI-rich environments. Participants learn to define purposeful roles for educators, learners and AI, develop differentiated learning experiences, and redesign lessons and curriculum to meet changing learner needs while preserving learner agency. Through hands-on activities, participants develop an AI-enhanced learning or curriculum design that can evolve with changing technologies and educational contexts.

3

(CET298) Adapting Assessment for the AI Age: Practical Strategies for Adult Educators

This course equips adult educators and assessors to redesign assessment for environments where learners have access to GenAI, while using AI appropriately to support assessment work. Participants learn to design authentic assessment tasks, evidence requirements and rubrics that emphasise reasoning, verification and professional judgement, and to establish clear conditions for learner AI use. Through hands-on activities, they also develop AI-enabled assessment workflows with appropriate human oversight, accountability and quality controls.

4

(CET295) Leveraging AI Agents for Smarter Training and Learning Workflows

This course equips adult educators and training professionals to design and test agentic AI workflows for learning and training operations. Participants learn to move beyond single prompts to controlled multi-step workflows with clear roles, approval points, escalation rules and human oversight. Through hands-on activities, they redesign a real training or learning workflow, build or simulate a no-code solution, and test and refine it into a pilot-ready workflow for individual or organisational use.

5

(CET297) Choosing AI Tools for Adult Training: What Works, What’s Safe and What to Avoid

This course equips adult educators and training professionals to evaluate AI tools before adopting them for learning and training. Participants learn to assess AI applications for accuracy, reliability, data practices, bias, usability, vendor risks and suitability for context. Through hands-on testing, they identify potential risks and safeguards and develop evidence-based recommendations on whether an AI tool should be adopted, adapted, piloted, restricted or rejected.
