Synopsis

BPM101 Interdisciplinary Studies in Construction provides student an insight into the roles and responsibilities of the main players in a construction project, including the client, architect, engineer (civil, structural, electrical and mechanical), quantity surveyor, project manager, main contractor, specialist contractor and subcontractor. Their job scopes are identified so as to remove functional silos between the professions, and to facilitate and promote an integrated approach to the development, design and implementation of construction projects.

Trainer Info

Dr Zhao Dianfeng holds a PhD from Nanyang Technological University, an MEng and a first class BSc from Xi’an Jiaotong University, specializing in structural performance and civil engineering. Dr Zhao has broad experience across academia, consultancy, and government, and is currently Director at Apex Building Solutions. Previously, he spent eight years at BCA as a Principal Engineer leading forensic investigations and technical reviews. He has previously taught at BCA Academy and Zhejiang Gongshang University.

Mr Shawn Seow is a RIBA-chartered architect and Senior Manager at BCA, leading construction productivity. He holds an M.Arch from NUS and professional qualifications in BIM and construction productivity. Since 2019, he has overseen the delivery of more than 8,300 public housing units across multiple major projects, applying BIM-enabled VDC to enhance coordination and delivery speed. His portfolio includes landmark developments in Punggol, Tengah, and Lentor Hills, including early PPVC projects. He previously held senior roles at DP Architects and Surbana Jurong, and his work has received multiple national awards from MND, HDB, and BCA.


Course Completion requirements

  • Participants are required to achieve at least 75% attendance and pass any prescribed examinations/assessments or submit any course/project work (if any) under the course requirement.
  • Participants are required to complete all surveys and feedbacks related to the course.
  • The course fees are reviewed annually and may be revised. The University reserves the right to adjust the course fees without prior notice.
