EMT401 Special and Mega Events will equip students to analyze the place of mega and iconic events within the market place. It will include: categories of mega events, history of mega events; mega events and society; the role of government in the bidding process; mega events as a mechanism for economic and business development; external factors influencing events; mega events as a driver for change.

Trainer Info

Mr Lloyd Tan brings over 40 years of deep industry experience across the exhibition, conference, and MICE sectors, with extensive expertise in project management, strategic business planning, event finance, risk and crisis management, marketing, and event sustainability. Currently serving as Head of Capability Development at SACEOS and Associate Faculty at SUSS, he blends real‑world insights with academic rigor to develop future-ready event professionals. As an industry-recognized trainer for global certification programmes, he is highly regarded for his ability to translate complex industry practices into practical, actionable learning.


Dr. Barkathunnisha holds a PhD in Tourism (NTU), an MBA in Hospitality & Tourism Management, and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology & Social Work brings strong academic grounding to her professional practice. She also holds professional certifications including the Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) and Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA), formalizing her expertise in pedagogy and training design. Combined with awards such as Outstanding Tourism Trainer (WDA) and Most Inspiring Woman in Travel Asia (IWTA 2024), her credentials significantly strengthen her profile as an impactful and authoritative trainer in event management.



Course Completion requirements

  • Participants are required to achieve at least 75% attendance and pass any prescribed examinations/assessments or submit any course/project work (if any) under the course requirement.
  • Participants are required to complete all surveys and feedbacks related to the course.
