Synopsis

This course equips participants with the insights into how misinformation spreads and the wider impact on societal trust, public attitudes, and workplace dynamics. Participants will learn to recognise common manipulation tactics and develop hands-on skills to verify sources, evaluate digital content critically and respond responsibly before sharing information. Participants will be equipped with the awareness and practical tools needed to navigate today’s Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven information landscape and contribute to a more informed, resilient, and cohesive society.

Recognising Misinformation and Its Patterns

  • Explore how misinformation takes shape through various narratives, and learn to identify typical forms such as altered visuals, misleading video clips, and invented stories.

Tools for Verification and Ethical Communication

  • Gain practical experience with tools and platforms used to check facts, verify the reliability of information sources, and assess the trustworthiness of content shared by users.

 Strategies in engaging with stakeholders in digital spaces

  • Example: maintain a neutral and empathetic tone

 

      Objectives

      In this course, participants will develop a strong awareness of how misinformation can influence social cohesion, public discourse, and workplace relationships in Singapore, particularly in an era where generative AI can produce convincing synthetic content such as deepfakes, AI-generated images, and manipulated media.

      Participants will be equipped with the practical skills to detect, assess and respond to misleading information across digital platforms. Through building critical evaluation habits and encouraging responsible communication, this course supports the strengthening of trust, mutual understanding, and constructive interactions across workplaces, organisations and the wider community.

      By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

      • Recognise and explain different forms of misinformation that may affect social cohesion and harmony within organisations and society.
      •  Describe and evaluate how misinformation and AI-generated content can influence perceptions and public discourse.

        By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

        • Utilise practical tools and techniques to identify and fact-check emerging forms of AI-generated content, including misinformation, deepfakes and manipulated media.
        • Apply critical thinking and responsible communication practices to assess content credibility before sharing or responding in professional and community environments.

              1 Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy: Singaporeans aged 40 and above may enjoy subsidies up to 90% of the course fees.
              2 Enhanced Training Support for SMEs: SME-sponsored employees (Singaporean Citizens and PRs) aged 21 and above may enjoy subsidies up to 90% of the course fees.


              • Participants are required to achieve at least 75% attendance and pass any prescribed examinations/assessments or submit any course/project work (if any) under the course requirement.
              • Participants are required to complete all surveys and feedbacks related to the course.
              • The course fees are reviewed annually and may be revised. The University reserves the right to adjust the course fees without prior notice.

              Course Withdrawal and Refund

              Request for withdrawal from a course must be submitted to SUSS Academy formally in writing.

              • Course Withdrawal before Application Close Date: No charges.
              • Course Withdrawal after course confirmation: 50% of the full course fee with an administration fee imposed.
              • Course Withdrawal after the course commences: Full course fee applies.
