Dream to Do: When Student Leadership Creates Social Impact
15 Jul 2026|2 Mins Read
When Ms Nicole Gay stepped into a room with close to 80 student leaders from across ASEAN, China, India, and beyond, she entered a space shaped by different disciplines, cultures, and lived experiences. At the Social Sustainability Leadership Forum (SSLF) 2026, broad ideas around quality education, digital inclusion, and social change became more tangible through the perspectives young leaders brought into the room.

"Diversity strengthens ideas," she said.

Taking on visible roles during SSLF, including emceeing the opening ceremony and moderating a panel discussion, also pushed Nicole beyond simply participating. It required her to be attentive to the tone, flow, and energy of the event, while helping others feel part of the larger conversation.
"My SSLF experience showed me the importance of teamwork, adaptability, and staying calm under pressure," Nicole reflected.
"It also reminded me that growth comes from stepping out of my comfort zone. Good leadership is not about having all the answers but creating the conditions for others to thrive and succeed together."

The Social Sustainability Leadership Forum 2026 brought together student leaders from diverse cultures and disciplines to exchange perspectives and tackle real-world social challenges.
More than just a student forum, SSLF became a platform for growth, equipping Nicole with the perspectives, relationships, and confidence to lead with purpose.
Whether leading a student initiative, moderating a panel, or working with people who see the same issue differently, leadership depends on the conditions you create for others to listen, contribute, and build towards something useful together.
