MOE Subsidies and Research Scholarship for SUSS Graduate by Research Programmes

SUSS is pleased to announce that, starting with the July 2026 intake, three Graduate by Research programmes will be subsidised by the MOE.

This initiative, together with the SUSS Research Scholarship, reflects SUSS’s commitment to enhancing academic quality and providing broader access to postgraduate education for students pursuing impactful research in the social sciences.

 


 

Government-Subsidised Graduate by Research Programmes

From July 2026 onwards, the following three Graduate by Research programmes will be subsidised by the MOE:

Students enrolled in the above programmes from the stipulated semester onwards and who meet the eligibility criteria listed below will be eligible for the government subsidy. Eligible students do not need to apply separately for the subsidy.

 

Eligibility

Students who are Singapore Citizen (SC), Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR), or International Students (IS) in receipt of the SUSS research scholarship, and who have not previously received a government subsidy/sponsorship for a graduate programme offered by autonomous universities in Singapore (i.e. SUSS/NUS/NTU/SMU/SUTD/SIT) or from overseas universities, will be eligible for the subsidy.

SUSS Research Scholarship

The SUSS Research Scholarship aims to support applicants who have demonstrated academic excellence in the social sciences.

 

Eligibility

The scholarship is open to applicants enrolling in the following postgraduate research programmes, for both full-time and part-time study:

Applicant must be a student with outstanding academic results i.e., at least a 2nd Upper Class Honours Degree from a reputable university or equivalent qualifications.

Research proposals that are relevant to the social services sector, have a clearly identified industry collaborator, and are likely to receive cash and/or in-kind support from industry will be prioritised.

 

Tenure of Scholarship

The scholarship is tenable for a maximum of four (4) years for PhD programmes and two (2) years for the master programme.

 

Value of Scholarship

For part-time students, the scholarship covers the tuition fee (excludes annual miscellaneous fees). For full-time students, the scholarship covers the tuition fees (excludes annual miscellaneous fees) and a monthly stipend as follows: 

  PhDs MRESS
 Singapore Citizen S$4,300 S$3,800
 Permanent Resident S$3,900 S$3,000
 International Student S$3,500 S$2,900

Note: CPF will be given on top of the stipend amounts for Singapore Citizens.

International students on scholarship shall fulfil the Graduate Assistantship Programme (GAP) requirement. Scholar will not be paid any remuneration for the hours clocked under the GAP.

 

How to Apply

Applicants who wish to apply for the SUSS Research Scholarship should submit their PhD application by the deadlines below and indicate their interest in the SUSS Research Scholarship in the Research Proposal Template application form.

Next January SemesterBy 31 August


Eligible applicants to the three programmes will be evaluated on a merit basis during their admissions interviews. Potential applicants for the scholarship will be identified and nominated as part of the interview process.

SUSS will notify nominated applicants via email to attend a panel interview for the scholarship.
