Effective assessment design is fundamental to supporting meaningful student learning and making sound decisions about student achievement. Well-designed assessments enable students to demonstrate relevant knowledge, skills, and competencies while generating evidence that educators can use to guide learning and evaluate achievement. Assessments also extend beyond formal tasks to include meaningful evaluation of learning processes, such as class participation, which can encourage active engagement, collaboration, and critical thinking when assessed with adequate criteria. In today's higher education landscape, assessments should be authentic, inclusive, and transparent, providing diverse learners with meaningful opportunities to apply their learning in relevant contexts and receive timely, constructive feedback that supports continuous improvement and helps students become self-directed learners.
