It is a career for individuals who are committed to advancing social equity, engaging meaningfully with diverse communities, and building a more inclusive society.  It is rapidly becoming a cornerstone of our society.  As a social worker, you will empower individuals, families and communities, champion for transformative change and inclusivity, tackle real-world problems with compassion and impact through systems thinking and policy engagement.

Our part-time Social Work degree programme is designed with flexibility in mind. It is tailored for working adults, career switchers, and those looking to deepen their impact on society.  It builds a strong foundation in core theories and real-world practice.  The students will gain essential knowledge and skills to support individuals, families, groups, and communities.  It offers a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum that integrates knowledge with practical application, field education with reflective learning to develop your critical thinking, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. It also lays the foundation for broader social impact through policy development, planning, and evaluation.

 

Career Prospects

Graduates will be well-positioned to pursue enriching careers in family service centers, children and youth agencies, government ministries, healthcare institutions, prisons and rehabilitative agencies and other community development or social service agencies.

Programme Structure

Bachelor of Social Work

To graduate with a basic degree, students are required to complete a total of 130 credit units (cu) of courses, which includes:


Bachelor (Hons) of Social Work
This programme has an honours option. Students who achieve a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.5 and above upon completion of their basic degree may be invited to enroll in the Honours programme, which will be offered only if the requisite number of students is met.

Graduating students who meet the eligibility criteria for an Honours classification will be awarded an honours degree based on aggregate academic performance measured by the CGPA assessed throughout the degree programme.

To graduate with an honours degree, students are to complete an additional 40 cu to achieve a total of 170 cu, which include:

Admission Requirements

Applicants with a SSI Higher Diploma in Social Service or a WSQ Diploma in Social Service will be considered for admission. Candidates may be required to undergo one or more interview(s) to assess their suitability in terms of their motivation and ability to complete the programme.
