Overview

This programme at Singapore University of Social Sciences provides technical depth and breadth to prepare graduates for a rewarding career in the electronics industry. It is structured to develop and train students with an in-depth knowledge of electronics, telecommunications, and IT.

Students have a choice for specialisation in areas such as VLSI design, analog and digital control system design, telecommunication system design and multimedia systems.

Career Prospects

The Electronics programme is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Board (EAB), Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES). Through this accreditation the BEng Electronics degree is recognised in Singapore and 14 other countries (Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Russia, South Africa, Taiwan, Turkey, United Kingdom and United States) following the Washington Accord. Graduates from this programme should be able to work in industries such as Electronics, Telecommunication, Semiconductor foundries and Control plants amongst others.

Programme Structure

This is a direct honours programme. Graduating students who meet the eligibility criteria for honours classification will be awarded an honours degree based on aggregate academic performance measured by the cumulative grade point average (CGPA) assessed throughout the degree programme.

To graduate with an honours degree, students are to complete a total of 170 credit units (cu), which include:

  • 20 cu of SUSS Core courses
  • 120 cu of Major Compulsory courses
  • 30 cu of Major Elective courses

The curriculum is structured such that:

  • Level 1 courses consist of basic analogue and digital electronics design courses.
  • Level 2 courses cover linear system design and analysis courses.
  • Level 3 courses cover advanced electronics engineering courses such as microprocessor programming, signal processing, communications and electives such as control systems, semiconductors, VLSI design, radar and RF system.
  • Level 4 - Compulsory Capstone Electronics Project.

Students admitted on January 2027 semester onwards who do not have any of the following qualifications are required to read MTH106 Foundational Mathematics and pass it as a bridging course before they take MTH109 Calculus.

  • Grade B3 or better Additional Mathematics at Singapore-Cambridge GCE O or AO level
  • Grade D or better grade in A level H2 Mathematics/Further Mathematics
  • IB course Mathematics: Analysis and approaches HL
  • Any of the recognized Certifications from Polytechnics from Singapore in the table below:

    Nanyang Polytechnic
    • Graduate DPP Transcript comprising the three Diploma Plus courses: Analytical Geometry, Applied Calculus and Advanced Calculus.
    Ngee Ann Polytechnic
    • Diploma Plus Programme (Certificate in Advanced Computing Mathematics); or
    • Diploma Plus Programme in Advanced Engineering Mathematics.
    Republic Polytechnic
    • Certificate in Mathematics
    Singapore Polytechnic
    • Certificate in Engineering Mathematics (CEM); or
    • Certificate in Mathematics for Engineering (CME); or
    • Certificate in Engineering Mathematics & Science (CEMS); or
    • Diploma-plus Certificate in Mathematics for School of Digital Media and Infocomm Technology (PCM); or
    • Certificate of Completion of the Advanced Mathematics Programme (AMM); or
    • Certificate of Completion of the Higher Mathematics Programme (HMM).
    Temasek Polytechnic
    • Certificate in University Preparatory Programme – Foundation Mathematics
      or
    • Certificate in University Preparatory Programme Mathematics

MTH106 Requirement

Students who do not possess the above recognised qualifications may opt to take the MTH106 Challenge Exam. Upon obtaining 50 marks or more for the MTH106 Challenge Exam, they will be eligible to take MTH109 Calculus. Students who do not meet the above mathematics entry requirements and do not obtain 50 marks or more for the MTH106 Challenge Exam will be required to complete and obtain a C or better grade for MTH106 before proceeding to MTH109 Calculus.

Admitted students are encouraged to complete and pass MTH109 Calculus as soon as they can so that they can advance to take more advanced courses which requires MTH109 as a prerequisite.
